Meadowvale is a safe and diverse community of over 100,000 residents located in the North West corner of Mississauga. In the early 18th century, the Village of Meadowvale was founded by Irish immigrants from the United States. Due to its excellent location and proximity to the Credit River, milling was the main industry in the area. It's worth noting that the original Village of Meadowvale is located north of highway 401 in the area of Derry Rd W and Second Line, adjacent to the Meadowvale Conservation Area, whereas the majority of today's residents live south of highway 401 and further west along the Winston Churchill Blvd corridor.
In the late 1950's, highway 401 was constructed, which greatly affected the future of Meadowvale, putting it on the largest transportation corridor in Canada. In 1968, Meadowvale was amalgamated into the Town of Mississauga and in the 1970's, farmland west and south of the original town was developed into subdivisions that make up the present day area.
Meadowvale is home to the largest business park in Mississauga, which hosts the Canadian head offices of some of the world's fortune 500 companies; including Walmart and Microsoft. Over the past 10 years, Meadowvale has also attracted many multi-national pharmaceutical companies, which has diversified the economy and brought high paying jobs to the Mississauga region.
Meadowvale has a large power center with most major shopping chains located at highway 401 and Winston Churchill Blvd. Located further south on Winston Churchill Blvd, between Battleford Rd and Aquitaine Rd, is the Meadowvale Town Centre. Combined, these 2 shopping areas provide residents with almost everything they need locally.
Meadowvale also boasts an excellent system of parks and trails which enables residents to enjoy many sports and outdoor activities. Located just north of Highway 401 and Mississauga Rd is the Streetsville Glen Golf Club, where golfers can enjoy their game without driving far. Nature is important in Meadowvale, the area has the Meadowvale Conservation Area and two lakes; Lake Aquitaine & Lake Wabukayne. This ensures plenty of green space, wildlife and nature for, which is very rare in most urban areas in the city.
Meadowvale Transportation
Meadowvale has excellent transportation links with two Go Train Stations, and is serviced by highways 401, 407 and 403 to the south, which makes it very accessible to the nearby communities of Toronto, Brampton, Milton and beyond.
Meadowvale has two GO Transit stations, Meadowvale Go and Lisgar Go. The Meadowvale station is a Go Transit Hub that has 1 rail line and 3 bus lines. The Meadowvale Go train station offers hourly service to the two main transit hubs in the GTA, Union Station and York University.
Meadowvale is also serviced locally by the Mississauga Transit with a hub located at the Meadowvale Town Centre.
